 ATHLETICS INFO FROM 1954-1955
Football, 1954 Record 6 wins, 1 loss. Western Upper Peninsula Champions.
Only loss was to Hurley, 38-14. Bessemer-Wakefield game cancelled because of snowstorm.
Rated fourth best by U.P. sportswriters.
Coach Roman Yatchak named U.P. "Coach of the Year."

Basketball, 1954 (Cinderella Team 11 wins, 11 losses): U. P. Class "C" Champions;
District Tournament at Bessemer: Ewen 38-49; Ontonagon 50-55.
U.P.Regional at Negaunee: Rudyard 52-58; Houghton 60-63;
Quarter-finals at Gaylord: Marion 48-61;
Class "C" Semi-Finals, State of Michigan, East Lansing: Lansing St.Mary's 61-43.

Basketball, 1955 11 wins, 8 losses.
District Tournament finals, lost to Ontonagon, 56-50.
Broke the jinx held by Ironwood for 11 years, beating the Red Devils twice in one season. Finished third in M-W Conference.

Tennis, 1954 Michigan-Wisconsin Conference Champions for the 7th straight year.

Track, 1955 Cardinals hand Red Devils first loss in 25 years in Range Track Meets, 52 points to 50 1/2 points in the Invitational Meet held at Wakefield.
WHS runners-up in the UP Class "C" Track meet.
Second place in Michigan-Wisconsin track meet, 53 pts, Ironwood with 59. Close meet - winner determined in the last race of day.

Baseball, 1954 Second place, tied with Bessemer in Michigan-Wisconsin Conference
