Some articles from the Jr. Journal, 1954-55 written by Wakefield Jr. High Students

Fashions written by Rosemary Johns
Well here it is fall and almost winter. Everyone is wearing winter coats. Most of them have bright colors. Won’t they look nice against the white snow? Marsha L. is set for any weather in her new red football coat.
The girls seem to like shrugs and sweaters this year. Carolann H. was wearing a lovely green shrug. It looks very nice with her red hair. We couldn’t help noticing Darlene H’s beautiful blue corduroy jumper.
Plaid shirts are another thing the girls like. Sharon P. was wearing a darling plaid shirt.. We have noticed some nice plaids on other girls too.
Charlotte K. was wearing a cute red and white checked blouse. Have you see JoAnn M’s. green sweater? It’s very pretty!
Laurel R. was wearing a darling gold corduroy jumper.
Blue seems to be a popular color with the boys this year. Dan B. and Walter K. have blue shirts. Walter can really wear blue with his red hair!

Sport’s Highlights around the country by Robert Koski
In the American League the clubs were talking about transferring Philadelphia to Kansas. Johnson put in a bid over three million dollars and Mack doesn’t know if he is going to sell the club.
The Detroit Tigers got a new manager and new coaches. Bucky Harris is the new manager who has been managering in the years of 1929 to 1934.
Gene Conley, a right hand pitcher for the Milwaukee Braves, is being paid to play professional basketball.
The Detroit Red Wings will probably be the hockey champions again this year, as they have been left undefeated in their first three games of the year.
Paul Richards, former manager of the Chicago White Sox, is the manager of the Baltimore Orioles.
The Detroit Lions are fighting for the championship again, as they are tied for first place with the 49ers. The Lions are undefeated with no ties and the 49ers are undefeated, but have a tie with the Rams. The Lions beat the Rams 21-3 and the 49ers score was a 24-24 tie. It was the first team to hold the Rams to only a field goal. The Rams beat the Lions twice last year.
